The powerful waters of Fossil Springs rise at the bottom of a 1600 feet deep canyon in Coconino National Forest. 20,000 gallons of calcium-laden water pour out every minute, laying down deposits of travertine limestone and creating fossils that inspire the area’s name. In the center of the pattern, the springs surge to the surface, flowing out to fuel the wild waters of Fossil Creek, one of only two “Wild and Scenic” rivers in Arizona.
