Geometric pinnacles pay tribute to Beacon Rock, a dramatic formation in the Columbia River Gorge. On October 31, 1805, the Lewis and Clark Corps of Discovery first saw this landmark. They stopped to measure the river tides. By their ebb and flow, they realized they were finally nearing the Pacific Ocean after seventeen months of travel. Geometric hills and cliffs border a center band that represents the mighty Columbia on its path to the Pacific.
